TMS320F28377S: CAN communication failure how to handle

Hi Team,

There's an issue from the customer need your help:

Cut off the CAN communication line M_CANRXA or M_CANTXA or the isolation chip Vcom_5V power supply, the CAN communication is broken, and then reconnect the above broken line, the CAN communication cannot be restored. May I ask what kind of CAN communication fault is triggered at this time, and how to deal with it? Is there a programming reference manual? Thanks

It is called "Bus Off" state. The exact behaviour is determined by error counters as described in the Bosh CAN spec.

A mature bus off recovery strategy is usually defined in the user code. For example AUTOSAR CanSm module.

More simply, this microcontroller has an "Auto Bus On" feature in the silicon. Please see section 21.4.2.2 of the TRM: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/spruhx5

Manually cutting off the lines will likely introduce multiple errors that would push the node into bus-off condition. The module features auto bus-off recovery as Kier points out.
