TMS320F28388D: What standard CAN transceiver chip can I use with this microprocessor? Can it be one specified to ISO11898-2?

I want to interface a standard CAN transceiver with this device on the Eval board. Will a CAN transceiver that is specified to ISO 11898-2 work with the CAN port on this microprocessor? I was going to use the SN65HVD230. Will that work?

Luke,

The important question is whether you are planning to use the DCAN module (in which case SN65HVD230 is good) or the MCAN module (in which case you need to look at TI transceivers that are designed to work with higher bit-rates of CAN FD, like the TCAN34xx series).

Thanks Hareesh. I would work with datarates below 1Mb/s so the DCAN or classical CAN if you will is what I will go with. But doesn't the MCAN support classical CAN as well if I want to operate at datarates of 1Mb/s or less?

Yes, you are correct. In that case, you can go with HVD230.
