TMS320F280039C: The flash write/erase cycles

Part Number: TMS320F280039C

Hi champs,

According to datasheet, the maximum write/erase cycles per sector is 20K cycles, and the maximum write/erase cycles for entire flash(combined for all sectors) is 100K cycles.

I am wondering what's the difference? If my customer uses some flash sectors for data storage purpose, what's the maximum write/erase cycles of my customer's data storage flash? Is it 20K or 100K cycles?

Please advise your comment, thanks.

Regards,

Luke

  • Luke,

For any given sector it will be 20k max, regardless of how few or how many sectors are used.  The 100k W/E limitation is a global limit, and a function of some common logic shared across all sectors.  The F28003x has 15 sectors, if the customer needs 20k W/E on multiple sectors then they could only spread this across 5 sectors.  Or if they wanted 10k W/E then they could have this across 10 sectors, etc.

Likely that the customer only needs data storage, i.e. 20k W/E for a few sectors so it would leave the remainder of the 100k for the rest.  Even if the 100k total isn't used, they are still constrained by the 20k W/E limit on the sector itself.

    Best,

    Matthew
