TMS320F28386S: RAM retention - CM

Hello,

is there an ability to have RAM retention on the CM?

I am using the lwip stack, witch is getting the watchdog to reset the device every 30 minutes or so...
I have another ticket open about that issue.

Anyway, to help with handling the watch dog resets, I need to be able to maintain some data in RAM.

I was not able to find any reference in the TMR regarding RAM retention.

I would love your advice on this issue.

Hi,

RAM values will be retained on watchdog reset but if you are talking about variables then these get initialize as part of cinit. To avoid this you could have direct access to ram location which are not used in your code (you can reserve it in linker cmd file).

Just read/write the value by direct memory access -

*(long int *)memory_addr = value;

When using the value -

if (*(long int *)memory_addr == value) {

---

}

In linker cmd file you can define a section specific to memory range (depending on how many location you need) and do not assign anything there.

if I understand you correctly:

RAM is not Initialized.

Variables do get Initialized.

If I want to have data in RAM that is not Initialized at startup, I should use RAM space directly by address, without assigning variables to that aria.

Thant way, without variables, the RAM space will not be initialized.

Correct?
