Hi,

I am working on a 29379D system which is connected through SPI and Serial comm to a Sitara ARM processor running an OS. Is there any way to run an firmware upgrade to 28379D through the ARM processor? The objective is to be able to send the required file to the ARM processor from a PC and then pass it from the ARM processor to the 28379D for the firmware update.

I can see in the LaunchXL28379 Users Guide (Rev C) it is mentioned that the SCIA pins routed to the XDS are not valid SCI boot pins and that the LaunchPad is not capable of using Boot to SCI boot mode. Does this mean we cannot upload the firmware externally on the launchpad by any method? Is there any other method of doing this through the ARM processor. Any suggestions or direction to documentation that I can read would be really helpful.

Aditya,

Yes, this should be possible i.e. using the ARM as the host. However, if I remember correctly Sitara MCUs have the UART and no SCI, whereas C2000 MCUs have SCI and no UART. So that could be an issue.

On your 2nd question, let me ask a board level expert on this. I have seen the note you mention.

On the 2nd question, suggestion from the Apps expert:

The SCI boot pairs are GPIO84/85 and GPIO28/29. It's documented in the datasheet. If those pins are brought out to headers on the launchpad they can connect them to Sitara

Hi Sira,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it looks like none of these pairs are available on the headers. Does that mean that this board cannot be tested for SCI boot?

Yes, that's correct. You can consider using the TMDSCNCD28379D evaluation board instead if you'd like.
