Communication Protocol

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PROFIBUS

Please provide guidance on the appropriate stack and MCUs for the development of the following communication protocols with our STM32 controller:

1. Modbus TCP

2. PROFINET

3. PROFIBUS

4. EtherCAT

5. EtherNet/IP

Kindly address the following inquiries:

  1. Have you supplied all the necessary stacks for these protocols?

  2. Does your stack offer compatibility with other MCUs aside from STM32?

  3. Are there any additional expenses for licensing, certification, or stack updates?

  4. What is the expected lead time for the MCUs?

  • Hello Nilakantha,

STM32 is an ST Micro device, not TI.  You will have to contact ST Micro for this information.

If you are looking to replace the STM32 with a TI device that has the listed protocols, please explore our MSPM0 series of MCUs.  Here is an app note that describes such a migration: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slaae56a/slaae56a.pdf   .

  • STM32 serves as my master controller.

I am in need of a slave controller that can support various communication protocols using either its proprietary or third-party stacks.

I intend to transmit data using a transparent or serial interface.

Did TI MCU use Optimize Softing stack for Profinet and EthernetIP ?

If yes, What is the part number of that MCU ?

    Hi  ,

Please refer this for more details on list of supported protocols on TISitara MCU. https://www.ti.com/lit/an/sprach6d/sprach6d.pdf

    1. Have you supplied all the necessary stacks for these protocols? => Yes we have partnered with Kubus Gmbh for integrated stack solution.

Hi Sutton MIke could you please answer these questions?

    1. Does your stack offer compatibility with other MCUs aside from STM32? =>

    2. Are there any additional expenses for licensing, certification, or stack updates?

    3. What is the expected lead time for the MCUs?

  • HI Nilakantha,

    1. Does your stack offer compatibility with other MCUs aside from STM32? => The device stacks on AM64x or AM243x are tested to the protocol standard compliance tests so that they will operate with the a corresponding protocol controller.  The device stacks in the SDK today or planned in the near term are EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET.  Modbus TCP and PROFIBUS are available from third parties like TMG (tmgte.de) or Port (port.de).

    2. Are there any additional expenses for licensing, certification, or stack updates?  => Licensing for the TI device stacks powered by KUNBUS are included in the device price.

    3. What is the expected lead time for the MCUs? => 10-12 weeks is standard lead time for device orders greater than 50 pieces

    Regards,
    Mike

  • Thanks Mike for the quick reply.
