Hi,

I am working on a project that uses this MCU (TMS320F28379), and I want to know what happens (or can happen) to the MCU's operability when it is subjected to a cold environment below the minimum recommended operating conditions (below 40 degrees Celsius). For context, we are designing an embedded system, and are thinking about using a passive heater circuit to warm up the MCU before it boots if it gets below the minimum operating temperature.

Zane,

It is hard to predict what would happen when the device is operated outside of the datasheet specifications. We wouldn’t recommend that. It is conceivable the device may not boot up correctly. Your idea of a passive heater circuit sounds good.

Just as a data-point, we have TMS320F28377D-EP, which is rated down to -55°C. Perhaps you could look at that.
