TMS320F280039C: Connection to TCAN1042

Hi,

I am using the TMS320F280039C as a host MCU for a BMS reference design using the BQ79718 as the AFE. CAN signals coming from the VCU of the EV have to be interfaced with the MCU via a CAN transceiver. We are using the TCAN1042 as the CAN transceiver.

Where can I connect TXD and RXD pins of the TCAN1042 to the TMS320F280039C MCU? GPIO60 supports MCAN_TX and GPIO61 supports MCAN_RX. There is a CANA_RX at GPIO59 and a CANA_TX at GPIO58. What is the difference between the MCAN and CANA signals in the MCU? Please help in connecting the CAN Transceiver's pins to the correct GPIOs.

    Nihil,

       It depends on whether you want CAN  or CAN FD in your application. MCAN supports CAN FD function (and classic CAN). DCAN module only supports Classic CAN function. Note that DCAN and MCAN are completely different modules and are not software-compatible with each other.
