TMS320F28379D: How to program code and security OTP in production?

Hi,

What is the best method of programing code and security settings in production? Optimum would be 'one click' method.

I used UniFlash and tried to do the sequence:

prorgam code in flash CPU01
prorgam code in flash CPU02
prorgam security settings for CPU01 Zone 1
prorgam security settings for CPU01 Zone 2
prorgam security settings for CPU02 Zone 1
prorgam security settings for CPU02 Zone 2

Unfortunatelly after [3] when I was trying to program Zone 2 the error appears:

[ERROR] C28xx_CPU1: Error connecting to the target: (Error -1156 @ 0x0) Device may be operating in low-power mode. Do you want to bring it out of this mode? Choose 'Yes' to force the device to wake up and retry the operation. Choose 'No' to retry the operation without waking the device. (Emulation package 9.10.0.00080)

I pressed the button below:

All settings were entered in the fields:

LINKPOINTER =1fff.ffff,
CRCLOCK = ffff.fff0,
OTPLOCK = ffff.fff0,
BOOTCTRL = 0b5a,
PASSWORD = ...
GRABRAM = ...
GRABSECT = ...
EXEONLYSECT = ...
EXEONLYRAM = ...

It is common behaviour that JTAG cannot be connected, this is the result of enabling security. I can recovery from that state if I set BootWait mode at power on, but this is not my goal.

In production I need to avoid any connection of extra components and program all security as well as initial bootloader code.

Hi Charles,

If I remember correctly, in CCS I can program all without loss of connection with JTAG.

Unfortunatelly CCS is not suitable for production:

1) required instalation of large CCS package,

2) multiple steps needed to program all items

Hi Piotr,

The default behaviour for UniFlash is to disconnect after every operation. You can use the "remain connected" option to keep the JTAG connection between operations. When programming passwords, the device is only locked after you disconnect. Perhaps setting the remain connected option would work for you?
Other possibilities would be to use Debug Server Scripting with CCS or the UniFlash command line. I don't have specific guidance on how to get these working with your use case though. Further investigation would be needed.

Hi Andy,

Can you post me a screenshot ilustrating where I can set "remain connected" option? Is it is GUI or should be set in some configuration file?

Can you send me some documentation on Debug Server Scripting? Is it somehow connected to GEL files?

You can toggle the option by clicking on the core names in the top right.

DSS exposes APIs you can use to control the debugger. GEL is used internally in the debugger for expression evaluation and for automating device specific tasks. You can think of GEL as a block inside the debugger, and DSS as an API talking to the debugger.

DSS also looks very interesting for automation of the testing and production process.
