TMS320F2800157: Use MCAN as standard CAN Module

Part Number: TMS320F2800157
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: C2000WARE

Dear Champs,

I ask this for our customer.

1. Can F2800157 MCAN module be used as standred CAN Module? Is there any application note or example code is available for using MCAN Module as standard CAN module on F2800157?

2. Is there any difference between MCAN and CAN in peripheral hardware circuit design?

Thanks!

Regards,

Bharat

  • 1. Can F2800157 MCAN module be used as standred CAN Module?

Yes. CAN FD is backward compatible with Classic CAN.

Is there any application note or example code is available for using MCAN Module as standard CAN module on F2800157?

Yes, we just released an application note on Monday. See www.ti.com/lit/SPRAD59. Example code is in C2000ware.

    2. Is there any difference between MCAN and CAN in peripheral hardware circuit design?

Not in circuit design. However, if high bit-rates are desired in the data phase, then a CAN FD-compatible transceiver must be used.
