TIDM-BIDIR-400-12: Questions about the way how to import the design files to OrCAD

Part Number: TIDM-BIDIR-400-12
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE

Hello, Team,

I’d like to ask about the reference design, “TIDM-BIDIR-400-12.”

You provide the below design materials about above converter on your website, https://www.ti.com/tool/ja-jp/TIDM-BIDIR-400-12.

I’d like to import and edit these design files, including board schematics, component symbols, PCB layout, footprints, through OrCAD Capture and OrCAD PCB Editor.

However, I couldn’t import the files to OrCAD.

Therefore, I’d like to know the way how to import and edit them through OrCAD. If it is not possible, I’d like to get the design files which I could import and edit through OrCAD.

I appreciate your every support.

Takumi

  • the files are in controlSUITE. I believe fhe file format is PADS. Hopefully you have a PADS importer in OrCAD.

Here is another similar HVLV DCDC which is done in Altium. I believe you can import that into OrCAD if desired.

  • Dear Cody,

Thank you for answering my question. In conclusion, thanks to the method you taught, I managed to get the PCB layout file from the generated directory and convert the file to the readable file through Altium.

However, when it comes to the schematics, I haven’t been able to convert to the readable file through Altium or OrCAD. Moreover, I have some problems. The concrete explanations are below:

    1. As I said above, I couldn’t read the schematics through Altium or OrCAD. First, I’d like to know the CAD application which generated the schematics, the title of the schematic file, and the directory they are saved.
    2. According to the schematics whose formats are .pdf, I assume that the information of parts and their connections is insufficient. Some component symbols are separated into unspecified symbols or not drawn.
    3. From my practical experiences of electronic circuit design, I assume that the schematics, component symbols, PCB layout, footprints need be linked each other to read, design, and modify each file. However, the provided files seem to be independent.
    4. Finally, I’d like to import and edit the board schematics, component symbols, PCB layout, footprints, through OrCAD Capture and OrCAD PCB Editor. I’m trying to solve the problem, but now I haven’t been able to finish it yet.

If you have any hints or solutions, I hope you will share them.

    Thank you for everything.

    Best Regards,

    Takumi

    1.  A classic version of Mentor PADS.
    2. Correct, the PDF version does not contain the full information. The orginal files are in the ASY, DAT,FAB files.
    3. I have only used PADS once or twice about 10 years ago, but I think it was a divorced tool, having two different programs for Schematic and  one for layout. I could be confusing this with another tool though.
    4. If you have a Mentor PADS importer I believe this is possible.

    Cody

  • Dear Cody,

    Thank you for replying quickly.

Based on the information which you gave me, I’d like to solve the problems.

    I appreciate your every support.

    Best Regards,
