TMS320F2800157: Arbitrary Reset

It appears that every part goes through a reset at some arbitrary time after power on. We have seen it as soon as 100 seconds after power on and as late as 3 hours after power on. Once the reset occurs, it doesn’t reset again. In one test, the 5 samples reset at 166s, 1905s, 2722s, 6772s, and 10440s respectively. The test was restarted at 415820s (115 hrs) but then after the restart, they all reset once again, but in different orders and at different times. No part has ever reset 2x during the same power cycle.

Hi Brian,

This is strange. Have you confirmed that reset was generated from device and not from external circuit on board ?

I am not sure how to reset from external circuit. Our design followed the reset circuit recommendations regarding the JTAG connection, but otherwise we are not using any sort of reset. If there are other sources of reset, I am not aware of it and have not done anything to mitigate it.

Can you share the reset circuit schematic. Also what revision of silicon you are using ? You can send me the top view pic of the silicon.

Sorry for the delay - I had to postpone my investigation. I am pretty sure the reset is coming from internal. Is it possible an NMI that is not serviced is the root cause.

You could check the NMISHDFLG register to confirm if there was any NMI event occurred.

Under normal power on conditions, SysCtl_getResetCause() returns an 0x03 value. When the reset event occurrs, a 0x0A is returned

Brian,

As per reset cause, the reset is because of NMI but you need to also check the value in NMISHDFLG register to know what is causing the NMI. Can you check that and let me know.

I added this line of code and found the reset happened due to NMI (0x0A)

resetCause = SysCtl_getResetCause(); // remember why the reset happened

I then added these 2 lines and the reset has not happened again. I have 5 samples on test for the last week.

nmiFlags = SysCtl_getNMIFlagStatus(); // remember the NMI status
intStatus = SysCtl_getInterruptStatus(); // remember the status

I am not sure how to proceed. I don't think my issue is resolved, but I can't replicate it.
