The GS RAMs are configured to be either CPU1 R and CPU2 R/W or CPU1 R/W and CPU2 R as shown below. The IPC is used for doing a handshake (i.e. checking the IPC flag statuses by each CPU to make sure they start synchronized) and data transferring, where as the GS RAM allows larger data to be stored by one CPU and read from either CPU.
