TMS320F28035: change to a new C2000 microcontroller without chaning PCB layout

Part Number: TMS320F28035

Hi TI experts,

I have a legacy project of an inverter with F28035 microcontroller. The microcontroller is outdated, and we need a better one now. Obviously, F28035 gets ADC measurement, and generates PWM as every other inverter project. I can choose a better C2000 microcontroller, and assign ADC, PWM and other channels as it should be. However, I am not allowed to do so. Just wondering if it is possible to change to a better C2000 microcontroller, without changing the PCB at all. Of course, we need to change the firmware.

Basically, it is like a pin-to-pin compatible change.

Thanks in advance

  • Hello,

I'll let another expert discuss the options regarding migration for pin compatibility, but for some of the firmware-related migration you can refer to the F2802x/F2803x to F28002x Migration Guide. While the F28002x is not pin-compatible, the concepts regarding migration in this document are nonetheless useful for your situation.

  • Ivan,

What you intend to do is not possible without a PCB change, primarily because of the following reason:

Our newer generation devices operate off 1.2v for the core, as opposed to 1.8v for the F28035 that you currently use.

In addition to the voltage change, there are many other factors to be considered. Omer has pointed you to the correct document. Please take a look.
