TMDSCNCD28388D: Getting started

There are examples included in C2000Ware which can be run on the F2838x Control Card (TMDSCNCD28388D) .  

These are located at C:\ti\c2000\C2000Ware_5_01_00_00\driverlib\f2838x\examples.

Hope you customer is familiar with Code Composer Studio (CCS)  . If not , then pls refer the following link

The examples need to be imported into CCS , compiled and then run on the device.

My customer has additional questions.

1. Is it necessary to download something called a kernel when downloading by serial ?
2. They couldn't find a kernel for F28388, so they tried using what seems to be F2837xD. Is that OK?
3. HEXConvert does not create a .txtx file like the sample in serial_flash_programmer no matter how you set it.
What should we do?

Current situation:

① Connected the controlCARD baseboard docking station to the evaluation board, connected the power cable, and turned on the power. What seemed to be a power LED came on, but there were no events that could confirm CPU operation (LED flashing, etc.), so we determined that software was not programmed.
② They managed to build the LED sample project.
③ Attempted to download to the evaluation board using serial_flash_programmer which became C2000Ware_5_01_00_00.
Serial_flash_programmer.exe -d f2838x -k F2837xD_sci_flash_kernels_cpu01.txt -a led_ex2_blinky_sysconfig_CPU1.hex -b 19200 -p COM8.
The blue LED near the SCI connector flashes, and the message appears as if it is transferring.
When they tried to execute DFU CPU1, they entered 1 [Enter], then "LED_ex2_blinky_sysconfig_CPU1.hex to device..." was displayed,
and the operation stopped.

They can directly program the .out file (binary file) using the JTAG .  The control card comes with xds100v2 emulator which can be used to program the device.

After launching the debug session in CCS,  connect to the target and then load the program using "Run"->"Load" -> "Load Program"

What is the use case?  Are they trying out programming without JTAG?

If you are programming the device using serial programmer, then a kernel is needed to be downloaded first which runs and then programs the application to Flash.

Hi Siddharth,

In the case for mass production, they would like to perform write from serial (sometimes USB).
Their current product performs farm write to the F2812 by serial communication.

Here is the command that should be used to convert the .out file to .txt file

{CG_TOOL_HEX}  ${BuildArtifactFileName} -boot -sci8 -a -o ${BuildArtifactFileName}.txt

For e.g:

Since there is no executable file (txt file) in this folder, my customer is trying to build a project, but they get many errors and cannot go until created a .txt file.

Could you share the following executable files in the <serial_flash_programmer> folder?
f2837xD_fw_upgrade_example.txt

If you import the above project into CCS and then compile it, it will generate the .txt file since the hex conversion is already added as a post build step for this project. 

Note that this is the kernel code .   The application binary has to be generated in the .txt format by the customer based on their application project.

Not sure about why the customer is facing it.  I was able to build it without any such issue. 

Can you request them to try with a new workspace?
