TMS320F28386D: IEC60730 Certification Level Clarification

Hi C2000 Champ !

My customer has installed C2000Ware and found that it has IEC60730 Library as you mentioned last time. I have some additional questions.

1. What is the IEC60730 rating of the C2000Ware Library?
Although the TMS320F28386D MCU supports IEC60730 class B, I heard that the IEC60730 class of C2000Ware library is Class QM, please confirm if this is correct.

2. IEC60730 Certification of C2000Ware library
- Does C2000Ware library have any IEC60730 functional safety certification?
Please share the relevant documents if you have them. (Not ISO26262 certification, but IEC60730 certification with IEC60730 wording)

- They found that there are certificates with IEC60730 wording from VDE, such as the C2000 SafeTI IEC60730 Software Library for TMS320F2806x MCUs. 

We need urgent confirmation on whether this applies to your business, so we need to know by the end of this week. We urgently need your help.

    We do have a certificate from UL for the SDL in C2000Ware for IEC60730 Class B. There's some more information (including a link to the certificate) in this FAQ.

    • Version 4.01.00 of the SDL in C2000Ware 5.00.00.00 has been assessed by UL--see certificate

    but I can't find word "C2000Ware" in certificate above link.

    is this right certificate of C2000Ware?

    The picture above is the certification letter, but I can't find the phrase SDL in C2000Wave,
    Please confirm that the document is indeed UL certificate for SDL in C2000Ware for IEC60730 Class B.

    Thanks for your patience--I was out of the office for the last couple weeks.

    It is the correct certificate. C2000 Self-Test Library was the name of the original Class B library for our previous generation of devices that was renamed to C2000 Software Diagnostic Library when we implemented it for newer devices, so that's the name the UL certificate still uses. If you go to UL's website and look up the project by file number, you should be able to find additional details to confirm that the v4.01.00 SDL is covered by the certification.

    My customer again asked me to reconfirm that the TMS320F28386D device is certified to IEC60730 Class B and supports the self-diagnostic library for Class B standards.

    Hi Jack,

    To be clear, the TMS320F28386D hardware itself is not certified for IEC60730 (although it does have an IEC61508 SIL 2/ISO 26262 ASIL B certificate) but it has a number of features that make it capable of supporting IEC60730 Class B (and even Class C). The SDL provides several software modules for the F2838x that can be used to implement several of the measures required by IEC60730 Class B (like tests of memories, tests of the CPU, etc...). The certification discussed above is only for the SDL software.
