Hi,

we have implemented a PMSM servo drive using combined FOC/encoder commutation with external PID control using a PWM torque signal, and the next step is to send fault/status information back to the external controller via CAN for diagnostics. One category of faults we would like to detect is PMSM hardware faults i.e. open circuit/short circuit windings.

Are there any existing utilities or reference materials for implementing motor fault detection? I have done a search but can't find anything, and I'd prefer not to have to start from scratch.

    It could be an engineering topic that depends on what method you want to implement and what faults you want to detect, and it's not a part of the FOC of motor. Currently, there is no a mature reference code for you, but you can find a lot of documentation on website.
