TMS320F28P650SH: m2m-Communication running EtherCAT

Part Number: TMS320F28P650SH

Tool/software:

Dear Teams,

I just wanted to ask if the F28P65 device is able to run EtherCAT using mac2mac (Phy-less) communication.

If so, has this ever been tested by TI ?
Regards,

Alex

  • Hi Alex,

I had asked Beckhoff this question in the past, pasting their reply below. We (TI / C2000) have not tested it ourselves however.

Basically a direct back-to-back connection of ESCs is possible, see e.g. Chapter 5.9 of the Beckhoff technology section.

Yet, such a connection without PHYs should be used either for backplane connections (e.g. modular I/O systems, as alternative to EBUS) or in any case for very short cabled connections (few centimeters). Only via PHYs it is possible to bridge distances in the order of meters, up to the 100 meters guaranteed by 100BASE-TX.

    Best,

    Kevin
