TMS320F28065: Current sensor location

Part Number: TMS320F28065

Tool/software:

Hi TI Experts,

I have designed a board to drive a PMSM motor using FOC. In the first design, I used the in-line current sensing method, which works fine. However, the high common-mode voltage required makes these sensors quite expensive. I noticed that in some TI application notes, the low-side current sensing method is employed, making the current sensors much cheaper.

I would like to ask if there are any advantages of in-line current sensing over low-side current sensing? Additionally, what considerations should I keep in mind for the low-side method? How can I convert low-side current measurements to in-line current measurements?

Thanks in advance,
