TIDM-1000: Can TIDM-1000 support no load output?

Part Number: TIDM-1000

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

Can TIDM-1000 support no load output? The user guide indicates need 500R to do the test.

But customers do not need the 500R. They think this condition does not make sense.

So how to modify the FW to achieve no-load output. Thanks

  • Jimmy,

I did not personally work on TIDM-1000, although it is common to bring a PFC's output up with no-load. In this case I would expect the converter to be running in Open-loop or closed voltage loop to ensure the output does not run away.

There are some practical difficulties in testing the hardware without a load attached. If you operate the converter for a time, then shut it down, how would you discharge the output capacitors? This could leave the board energized for a long time, slowing down development. My expectation is that this is the reason why. There may be some added stability, or tuning of the control loop from a fixed restive load, but i have not verified this. In any case the customer will be required to tune the controller to allow for smooth regulation under their input/output conditions.
