F28M36P63C2: EPI implementation on C28 core

Part Number: F28M36P63C2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE

Tool/software:

Dear support,

I'm trying to implement EPI on C28 core in General Purpose Mode and I wonder if there is any example for it.

The only example I found in ControlSuite, is EPI SDRAM for M3 core.

Thanks a lot,

Alex.

  • Hi Alex,

We only have ASRAM and SDRAM examples for this IP. We are using new external interface (EMIF) on new design so we may not have this example created. You should be able to modify the SRAM example to use it in GP mode.

  • Hi Vivek,

Just want to verify I understand the concept.

In case I want the C28 to communicate external device via EPI, I configure all the GPIOs and EPI registers on the M3 side and after that grabbing the control to C28 by setting the GRAB bit in CEPIRTWCFG register.

    Is that correct?

  • Yes, that is correct. Please let us know if have any further query or face any issue while implementing this.

If ok, can you also share why are you using this device and not some of new C2000 devices ?

    Regards,

    Vivek Singh

  • Hi,

Of course we preferred newer device, so we analyzed different options of newer TI devices as alternative but found nothing with the required peripherals and memory size.

In addition, one of the reasons for choosing F28M36x is because our old project was based on F28M35x and the code of the new project will be based on it.

  • I will highly recommend to migrate to new C2000 device to take full advantage of future roadmaps. I understand the migration effort to move to new device but most of the IPs on C28x side should be same on new C2000 devices. Any specific peripheral you are using which is not available on new C2000 device ?

  • Before taking the decision, we had a discussion with TI, and there was nothing they could recommend.

The peripherals in use are: TCP, CAN, EMIF/EPI, UART, SPI, PWM, DAC, ADC.

Previous project was based on F28M35x, so the trivial choice was also dual core. (using IPC)

We considered also single core processors but found nothing with all above peripherals and with enough memory.

  • Ok, Thanks. We have TMS320F28388D device with all the features. but I am not sure if it matches your price expectation.
