Hello,

I am starting a project to get a product compliant with UL1998 and as I started to work through the standard and working through the documentation I found some notes about the safety diagnostic library for the C2000Ware. Do I need to implement the C2000Ware Diagnostic Library to achieve UL1998 or if there are hardware preventions on the system that prevent damage to the unit if the MCU were to fail is it not necessary to implement the self tests assuming I can prove this to the testing agency?

Additionally, I noticed there were only examples for the TMS320F2837xD in the C2000Ware 1.0 diagnostics library. Is the Diagnostics library for the C2000Ware 5.0 not compatible with the TMS320F28377D? I found the UL 1998 compliance certificate for the C2000Ware Self Test library but I worry that it only covers the latest C2000Ware.

There seems to be a lot of information in this topic and if I am starting to look in the wrong place, I would be happy to accept any advice or direction!

    Hi Ethan,

    I think the best place to start is with the F28377D safety manual and this IEC 60730 / UL 1998 overview for C2000 devices. The safety manual describes the safety features and diagnostics (both hardware and software) for the device and the overview document helps narrow down the set of features and diagnostics that are relevant to UL 1998. Although many of the diagnostics are hardware-based, there are also some that need to be implemented by software. The SDL supports several of these, but you may need to implement a few yourself based on the description in the safety manual as well.

    You are correct that the latest C2000Ware versions don't include the F28377D SDL. That's still a separate package (C2000-SAFETI-DIAGNOSTICS-LIB) and unfortunately isn't covered by the UL certificate you found. It does contain a "compliance_support_package" folder which includes some documents like test plans, static analysis results, etc...that might assist you in your own certification though.
