TMS320F28032: Which kind of case should happen when enabled customer use high resolution period control on F28032?

Part Number: TMS320F28032

Tool/software:

Hi Experts,

I am asking for my customer here.

Customer use high resolution period control on F28032,also enable EPWM1 configurated as master, other EPWM2/EPWM3/EPWM4 slave, EPWM1 TBCTL/SYNCCOSEL = Zero event, So the jitters will happen on every PWM cycles.

When EPWM configure as the the below figure, case1 and case2 will happen or not? jitter refers to the timing of the PWM edges shifting slightly every period which will give you a messy signal on your scope, so we want to confirm that a messy signal,  What would a messy signal look like? Thanks.

  • Hi Shaoxing,

By "messy" I meant the timing of the edges will be slightly different every cycle. If you're observing this waveform on a scope that triggers on a rising edge, you won't see a clean rising edge since the scope will not place the rising edge in the middle of your scope view consistently.

If updating the phase shift every period and using high resolution period, there's no way to avoid this issue unfortunately.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thank you,

    Luke
