LP-XDS110: XDS110 Firmware

Part Number: LP-XDS110
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL-F280049C, CCSTUDIO

Tool/software:

Installed Code Composer V12.8.0.00012 on new Windows 11 laptop selecting only C2000 real-time MCUs option

Tried to upload program to LAUNCHXL-F280049C which has XDS110 probe with firmware 3.0.0.5 which failed. Error message says probe must be upgraded to firmware version 3.0.0.31. Attempted to update from code composer- FAILED

Tried using windows 10 laptop running Code Composer version 9.1.0.00010, and successfully reprogramed  the LAUNCHXL-F280049C i.e. still WORKING

Closed Code Composer on Windows 11 laptop

Attempted to update firmware using XDSDFU program on  Windows 11 system running V12,

XDSDFU -e Finds 1 device , version 3.0.0.5
Windows device manager
PORTS: XDS110 Class Application User (COM?), XDS110 Class Auxiliary Data Port (COM?)
Texas Instruments Debug Probes: XDS110 Class Data Port, XDS110 Class Debug Probe

XDSDFU -m Finds device, switches device into DFU mode
Windows Device Manager now shows under other devices :
    Tiva Device Firmware Update
Tiva Device Firmware Update properties   Drivers not installed

XDSDFU -f filename_3.0.0.31.bin -r
The requested device was not found on the bus

In C:\ti and its sub-folders windows search finds :
      No files labelled Tiva
     3 files labelled stellaris

stellaris_emu.dvr
C:\ti\ccs1280\ccs\ccs_base\DebugServer\drivers

device_stellaris.xml
C:\ti\ccs1280\ccs\ccs_base\emulation\analysis\xmldb\trace_config\devices

XDS110_StellarisDFU.png
C:\ti\ccs1280\ccs\eclipse\plugins\com.ti.ccstudio.usersguide.doc_12.8.0.202407301400\html\xdsdebugprobes\images

How to I update the firmware on the XDS110 on my board?

  • Updated correction to original post  there is one file with Tiva in the name

    FlashLoaderTiva.out in directory C:\ti\ccs1280\ccs\ccs_base\tiva size 3.44KB

Modified and Accessed 16 May 2024

  • Hi Dennis,

Could you try using CCS 12.7? I wonder if this is a version issue with the new release.

    Thanks,

    Ben Collier

  • Installed 12.7.1 alongside 12.8.0.00012

Used xdsdfu -e in c:\ti\ccs1270 directory tree finds device with firmware 3.0.0.5

    xdsdfu -m

sets device in program mode: windows device shows it as a STELLARIS DEBUG PROBE

    xdsdfu -f firmware.3.0.0.29 -r

    upload and reprograms firmware successfully

Code composer V12.7 successfully reprograms LAUNCHXL-F280049C

Code Composer V9 also programs LAUNCHXL-F280049C so firmware backwards compatible

Don't intend any further  faultfinding TI software but hope that testing of the Eclipse replacement is done better.

Suspect the rest of today will be spent working out how to stop the forum saturating my inbox
