TMDSCNCD28P65X: Simultaneous Debugger 5V Connection and External Edge Connector 5V?

Part Number: TMDSCNCD28P65X

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am working with a custom PCB carrier-card for the controlCARD. On the PCB, each of the 5V pins on the 180-pin HSEC connector is connected to an external 5V source.

Is it safe to power the controlCARD from the edge connector and the USB debugger at the same time? If not, what is the best way to debug while connected to external power?

  • WIlliam,

There is a power switch on the board to handle selection of the 5V source from USB or the HSEC connector.

I believe it prioritizes 5V0 from the HSEC connector, but this is detailed in the schematic.

Please note that if you are switching power rails on and off there is a potential for a small power glitch to reset the device as the power switch is moving from one supply to the other. We have seen the switch from one power source to another happen reliably, but it was not intended to hot swap the power supply so a brown out may occur causing a reset.

    Regards,
    Cody
