CCS 12.4.0 does not natively support that device.

We added support starting with CCS 12.6.0.

You can either update to at least CCS 12.6.0 or you can run the update checker for CCS 12.4.0 and install the latest C2000 device support update for it.

The generic one would only use generic compiler settings and a generic linker command file (if one is even used). This would then likely require you to make additional manual modifications to the settings. Use a non-generic option would have the setting already set to be optimal for the device.

I'm not sure if there is any documentation between differences with generic and non-generic option, as it might be different between devices. But I highly recommend to choose the correct device for your project, so that specific settings (like compiler and linker settings as noted by Ki, as well as memory map and flash configuration, etc.) matches the device you are using.
