LAUNCHXL-F280025C: Universal Motor Control Lab: Hall Sensored-FOC vs Sensorless-FOC

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F280025C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BOOSTXL-DRV8323RS

Tool/software:

Hello everyone,

I’m using the LaunchXL-F280025C together with the BOOSTXL-DRV8323RS to achieve Hall-sensored FOC control for a BLDC motor.

I’ve been able to successfully spin the motor using sensorless FOC (enabled via the MOTOR1_FAST flag), and it operates smoothly with minimal noise.

However, when switching to Hall-sensored FOC (enabling the MOTOR1_HALL and HALL_CAL flags), I’m experiencing significantly increased noise. The motor does spin, but there’s a noticeable ripple sound that isn’t present during sensorless operation. I also tried enabling the MOTOR1_FAST flag alongside the Hall sensor flags to see if it would improve the performance, but the issue persists.

For reference:

Motor Specifications: 21 pole pairs, 30A rated current, PM motor

Could anyone provide insights into why this might be happening or suggest potential tuning adjustments?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best regards,
Eyal
