TMS320F28379D: C2000 GUI Composer Issue - upload icons

Part Number: TMS320F28379D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH

Tool/software:

I'm following TI's C2000 GUI Composer tutorial to create a GUI composer project. On the first page of the New Project Wizard, I'm asked to upload "desktop shortcut icon" and "Window icon". The "Next" button is greyed otherwise and I can't go to the next step. The tutorial doesn't show this is necessary but has a check box "Enable TI-branding" checked. On the real Wizard, this check box doesn't exist. I'm using the cloud version as the tutorial instructed.

It's frustrating that TI doesn't provide the contact details of their country specific tech support but I need the help urgently.

Thanks

  • Hello,

Are you using GCv2 or GCv3? In any case, I see the "Enable TI-branding" checkbox in both. Please provide a screenshot.

If you are using GCv3, then you can just hit OK as instructed in the workshop since the target connection is configured separately. The icons are optional. You just need the project and application name

    Thanks

    ki

  • Hi,

Thank you for your answer. Yes, it was GCv3 - I actually found that the second part of the tutorial for v3 was different and I managed to have completed the process as instructed. However, when I click on RUN, the GUI was generated but it was not connected to the F28379D launchpad. It didn't generate any errors either, suggesting it was not even trying to connect. I actually intentionally gave a wrong path in the ProgramOrBinPath box of the target configuration but it doesn't seem to care.

By the way, the screenshot of the new project wizard is copied below. For some reason, it doesn't have the said check box.

It looks like some issue with steps 7 to 11 of the workshop. Please confirm those steps were followed. If so, please export your GCv3 project (File -> Export -> Project) and attach it to this thread so that I can take a look

That is indeed odd. I took a look again today and see the checkbox:

    What browser are you using?

  • Hi, I was using Edge. I'm trying Chrome instead now. I'll let you know the outcome. Thanks

  • Hi,

I went through the whole process again on Chrome. Every step was the same as in the tutorial but it still doesn't connect. I exported the project but can't attach the zip file here. tried using Insert->Image/Video/file, but the dialog doesn't have a Browse button for me to select the file (screenshot below). Also tried to drop the file directly here and failed as well.

    FYI:

    • GUI Composer Runtime and TICloudAgent Bridge were both installed.
    • The program built from Lab1 was good and running in the processor - red LED on the launchpad is blinking.
    • Serial connection should be fine as I can use CCS to download and debug the program

Please help as this is urgent for my work.

    Thanks

  • tried using Insert->Image/Video/file, but the dialog doesn't have a Browse button for me to select the file

Press the "Upload" text to insert an image

  • LED_1.zip

    here it is.

  • Thank you.

Your project looks good. It runs well for me. See my video below:

It does take a log time to flash the program but otherwise everything works fine.

Did you not see the various "connecting" and "loading" messages in the lower left corner like in my video?

    Thanks

    ki

  • Hi Ki,

Thanks for your help. This time, I watched the bottom status bar. It tried to connect but failed with this message

expanding the arrow: "xds disconnected (Error: .....)"

But, I can connect with CCS without any problem and the USB serial port was not being used by CCS at the time of running the GUI.

  • What is the host OS and web browser being used?

  • Windows 10 Enterprise, Google Chrome

  • Can you try uninstalling and then reinstalling TI Cloud Agent?

You can uninstall it by going to Windows add/remove programs and look for "TI Cloud Agent" and select it to uninstall.

  • Reinstall the TI cloud agent but still get the same connection error.

  • Hi, just a bit more info. If I uninstall TI cloud agent and try to run GUI Composer I get a message saying that Cloud Agent is not installed. The, if I reinstall the agent and run GUI again I don't get this message. This suggests that the cloud agent was actually running, right?

  • if I reinstall the agent and run GUI again I don't get this message. This suggests that the cloud agent was actually running, right?

Does it said "Hardware Connected" like in the video? Does the GC application run as expected like in the video?

  • Hi, no, I still have the connection problem as described above. I was just saying that the cloud agent seemed to be working but connection still failed.

  • Hello,

Sorry for the delay. I was on vacation and returned recently.

Are you able to successfully use other cloud agent based tools on dev.ti.com like CCS Cloud or the online UniFlash?

    Thanks

    ki

  • Hi, I didn't try those, but just an update - it may give you some clues.

I had one successful connection the other day but this morning when I tried to "Run" again I got a message saying that the cloud agent was out of date (this was never seen before). I was prompted to download it, which I did although I noticed it was actually the same package as the one already installed. I reinstalled it any way but after that the connection doesn't work again (the same failure message as above).

This is really frustrating. Do you have a GUI for F28379 devices at all like for the old devices? Or the customers have to use the GUI designer to design their own GUI for the new devices?

    Many thanks

Interesting. Would it be possible to disable any antivirus/security software to see if there can be some interference?

    What browser are you using?

If you can also quickly see if you can connect to your target in CCS Cloud, that would be very helpful.

I would create a new E2E thread for this question since this is best answered by the device experts.

  • An update: I didn't try cloud CCS in fear that it make change the settings to make my offline version not working.

I tried on a different PC with fresh installation of TI cloud agent and it worked so I created an separate user account on the same laptop that had problem and reinstalled the TI cloud agent. It worked!

So, it might be a messed-up registry caused by all the previous trial installations of different GUI's?

    Good to hear!

Perhaps. I hoped that when you manually uninstalled it, that it could clean things up.

  • Perhaps. I hoped that when you manually uninstalled it, that it could clean things up.

For the user account with the issue, after uninstalling ti cloud agent, perhaps try cleaning up this folder:

    C:\Users\<user>\TICloudAgent

And try again to see if that helps.

  • Hi, just had a detailed check. In addition to the installed TI Cloud Agent which can be uninstalled from the Windows Apps list, there are also cloud agent folders and its batch file etc. in the following installations

    C:\Users\<user>\guicomposer\runtime\gcruntime.v13\runtime\TICloudAgentHostApp

    C:\TI\ccs1281\ccs\ccs_base\cloudagent

    C:\TI\uniflash_8.8.1\TICloudAgentHostApp

    Would these cause problems?

  • C:\Users\<user>\guicomposer\runtime\gcruntime.v13\runtime\TICloudAgentHostApp

    C:\TI\ccs1281\ccs\ccs_base\cloudagent

    C:\TI\uniflash_8.8.1\TICloudAgentHostApp

These would be specific to that application in question.

When using online cloud agent (like GC designer), it would use the one in: C:\Users\<user>\TICloudAgent

  • OK thanks. I just deleted the concerned folder completely and reinstalled the agent but it still doesn't work. I give up.

The odd thing is I can actually use CCS Cloud - build, download and debug all work.

  • Hi, I now need help with the gc designer. Should I post a new thread?

    Yes, please.
