CCSTUDIO3: maintaining project for legacy TMS320Fx/TMS320LFx DSPs on Windows 11?

Part Number: CCSTUDIO3

Tool/software:

Team,
Some customers still need to maintain legacy projects using older TMS320Fx/TMS320LFx TI DSPs (ie compile, load to target and debug over JTAG).

I have seen the below FAQs:
https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/ccs_documentation-overview.html
including
    https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/ccs_ccs33-windows10.html
    https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/ccs_vmware.html
But do you have may be a more recent update?

-What about installing CCSTUDIO3 natively Windows 11?
-For CCSTUDIO3 on a Virtual machine would Windows XP Pro with SP2 or Win 7 recommended as Guest on a Windows 11 Host?
-What virtual machine technology and TI JTAG emulator are known to work together to enable interfacing of the target to the virtual machine over USB or Ethernet JTAG emulators?

Thanks in advance,

Anthony

  • Hello Anthony.

-What about installing CCSTUDIO3 natively Windows 11?

It may or may not work. It is certainly not officially supported (Windows XP would be the last officially supported Windows version). Many of the workaround mentioned for Windows 10 would apply to Windows 11. But it is "use at your own risk" with no support/assistance from TI.

-For CCSTUDIO3 on a Virtual machine would Windows XP Pro with SP2 or Win 7 recommended as Guest on a Windows 11 Host?

Windows XP is always the best choice. I use a Windows XP VM when I need to try something out on CCS 3.x and earlier. However, VMs can be tricky regarding debug probes. Again, use at your own risk.

-What virtual machine technology and TI JTAG emulator are known to work together to enable interfacing of the target to the virtual machine over USB or Ethernet JTAG emulators?

Beside VMware, many have used VirtualBox with good results.

    Thanks
