TMS320F28388S: CLA Assembly Conditional Builds

Greetings,

I am looking in SPRU513Z, the Assembly Language Tools guide. Page 89, section 5.7, Directives that Enable Conditional Assembly, shows the .if etc. I have been trying to add a conditional to the CLA assembly. But so far, I have been unable to get the .if statement to assemble. It always give me an error of “[E0002] Invalid mnemonic specification”. I have been using some examples which would be used on the CPU as my model. Is conditional assembly allowed in CLA Assembly code?

Hi Ed,

That is a good question. Generally, anything outside of what is mentioned in the Instruction Set from the device TRM and the CLA section of the compiler guide would not be allowed for the CLA compiler & assembler. I will loop in the compiler team to see if they have any other ideas for how you can do this using the for the CLA.

Here is a contrived example that uses .if ...

value   .set    1

        .sect   "cla_code"
        .global name

name:
        .if     value = 1
        MMOVIZ    MR0,#0
        .else
        MMOVIZ    MR0,#1
        .endif

I use this command to build ...

% cl2000 --cla_support=cla2 file.asm

It builds clean.

Please show a similar example that demonstrates ...

Ahhh... I see the problem. I wasn't indenting any of my .if/.else/.endif statements. Once I built yours, it became obvious. I went back to mine, provided the indent, and now it builds, as expected, in both cases of the conditional. It would be helpful to add a statement to that effect to the documentation.
