LAUNCHXL-F28379D: C2000 Launch PAd

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F28379D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28379D,

Tool/software:

We currently deploy a grid-forming control algorithm using MATLAB Simulink and the C2000 blockset library on the Texas TMS320F28379D LaunchXL board. The setup involves using an OPAL-RT real-time controller, where:

  • The controller model is designed in MATLAB Simulink and deployed on the Texas board.
  • ePWM pulses are generated by the Texas board and sent to the digital input of the real-time controller.
  • ADC channels on the Texas board read analog signals from the OPAL-RT system, which models the inverter and other power circuits in RT-LAB.
  • The sample time for RT-LAB is set to 10 µs, while the Texas board operates at 5 µs.

The deployment process involved preloading the controller onto the Texas board and then executing the model in OPAL-RT’s RT-LAB. This setup was tested multiple times (3–4 runs), and the results observed on an oscilloscope were satisfactory.

However, during the fifth execution, after predeploying the controller on the board and running the model in RT-LAB, the board suddenly disconnected from the computer. All three LEDs on the board turned off, despite the USB connection to JTAG remaining intact, and all signals on the oscilloscope dropped to zero.

Currently, the board does not power on when connected to the PC. The TMS320F28379D IC heats up significantly, and the board is not detected by the computer. When the JP1 jumper is removed, only one yellow LED glows, but the other LEDs remain off.

I have attached images for reference and would appreciate urgent assistance in diagnosing and resolving this issue.

  • Hi,

It sounds like you damaged your F28379D device when testing with the RT-LAB. Maybe input voltage at the device pins were too high and cause overvoltage or many device IOs were sinking too much current as outputs. Make sure normal operating conditions of the device are met.

The simplest solution is to purchase a new LAUNCHXL-F28379D. It's very challenging to replace the BGA package.

    Best,

    Kevin
