TMS320F28388D: EtherCAT Setup

Part Number: TMS320F28388D

Tool/software:

I have been attempting to set up an EtherCAT project, using TMS320F28388D and a resource I found from TI. Using SOEM as a master tool, also used TwinCAT for part of the time. Flashed the microcontroller with an EtherCAT PDI test to start and was able to read info from the slave on the master side to start.

However, I have not been able to get access to the SSC tool. My team does not necessarily want to share as much information with the ETG group as they request, and it has proven extremely difficult to develop the interface on my own even using SOES examples. Can you share if there are any alternatives to generating the slave stack code that I need to run the echoback solution example? Or an easier way of accessing the SSC tool without giving so much information to the ETG group? Or do we absolutely have to go through them, where would I even be able to find the info on the registers and data sizes if I had to do the interface myself? Please let me know, we are very stagnant in the project right now and need some steps forward.

  • Forgot to mention, with the PDI test I was only able to setup the first 15 bytes of the EEPROM just the bare minimum for a master to recognize a slave. Did not set up any PDO data yet, and never made it past INIT state to PREOP since nothing was really running in the PDI example. But this is where the SSC is necessary according to my resource.

Also please be straighforward with me, if it's infeasible to do anything but the SSC tool, so I can share this with my team

    Thanks so much

  • Hi Antonio,

All our EtherCAT examples require using Beckhoff's stack code. 3rd party options may exist but they may also still be based on Beckhoff's stack.

    Best,
