TMS320F28P650DK: Using UART through USB

Part Number: TMS320F28P650DK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: C2000WARE

Tool/software:

Hello, I am trying to configure UART for the universal control lab to collect data. I am looking at the examples for the F28p65x Board but have found no luck getting them to work. From my understanding, I should be able to connect UART through the USB COM5 port that handles UART (shown in device manager). However, nothing appears in the terminal when I try to run the loopback example using putty as a terminal viewer. I am very confused on what I am doing wrong. Any help setting up my UART connection for collecting data would be greatly appreciated.

Please let me know if you have any questions/ need additional information.

Thanks,

-Tyler Hawkins

  • Hi Tyler,

Which board are you using? F28P65x LaunchPAD or controlCARD?

And just to verify, what is the name and C2000ware path of the loopback example you are running?

    Best Regards,

    Delaney

  • Hi Delaney, I am using the F28P65x LaunchPad, and the example is UART_ex2_loopback and it is located here: C2000Ware_MotorControl_SDK_5_02_00_00\c2000ware\driverlib\f28p65x\examples\c28x\uart.

  • Hi Tyler,

Thank you for providing that information. There should be a switch on the LaunchPAD that enables the UART-to-USB bridge built into the board. The example uses GPIO 42 & 43, is that correct? If so, can you verify that S2 SEL1 is set to 0? SEL2 can be in either position to route the UART signals through the XDS.
Also can you make sure all the settings in putty match the UART settings in the example? For ex. baud rate, parity, number of stop bits etc.

    Best Regards,

    Delaney
