TMS320F28P550SG: About SCI speed issue.

Part Number: TMS320F28P550SG
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSCONFIG

Tool/software:

Does the F28P55x SCI support a communication rate of at least 8 Mbps? The maximum communication rate is calculated as 150 MHz / 16 = 9.375 Mbps, but does this mean it is achievable for the F28P55x? Additionally, I would like to know which other low-cost MCU models in the C2000 series support an SCI rate of at least 8 Mbps. I am considering the F29003x/F280015x, which has a clock frequency of 120 MHz. Is it possible for this model to achieve an SCI rate of no less than 8 Mbps?

  • Hi Lawrence,

Yes, the 8 Mbps baud rate is possible on the F28P55x since the max rate is 9.375 Mbps (as you have said). The max configurable rate of the SCI module is LSPCLK/16 on every C2000 device. So, the max rate for F280013x and F280015x would both be 7.5 Mbps and cannot reach 8 Mbps.

Going back to the F28P55x, even though a baud rate of 9.375 Mbps is configurable, keep in mind there could be some error introduced since the UART protocol is asynchronous. Part of the error produced is known (based on the LSPCLK and baud rate selected, you can check this in Sysconfig) and part of it is unknown (introduced via environmental factors like temperature, age of the device etc.)

    Best Regards,
