F29H85X-SOM-EVM: F29H859 Motor Control Application PLd as per ISO13849

Part Number: F29H85X-SOM-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM263P4

Tool/software:

Hello,

We would like to develop a motor controller using the F29H859 C2000 F29 processor that can drive two AC motors for traction and one motor for pump applications which can be either AC or DC (BLDC, PMSM, ACIM).

Do you have software libraries available for these applications, and is the processor's performance sufficient for this use case?

Additionally, we want our system to achieve PLd as per ISO 13849.

We will be using the TPS653860 PMIC.

Can we achieve PLd as per ISO 13849 directly with the TPS653860 and F29H859, or do we need an additional MCU as test equipment?

Best regards,

Egemen

  • Hello,

    Is there any progress?

I mentioned about F29H859 but we decided to use F29H850.

Also, we may use AM236P4 instead of F29H850.

I found a table to compare AM236P4 and F29H850 in following link.

The software diagnostic certificate for functional safety is available for the AM263P4, but I couldn't find one for the F29. As I mentioned in the question, the final product will be a safety system driving three motors.

Additionally, the AM263P4 requires external flash. Does this impact its performance compared to the F29?

Is there difference between PWM and Capture modules?

Could you please comment that what shall be the any other advantages and disadvantages between AM236P4 and F29H850 for our application?

    Best regards,

    Egemen

  • Hi Egemen,

Functional safety concept details can only be shared with NDA. Please contact your local TI sales office to get NDA established and get support.

The F29H85x device is still under certification process and we will publish certificate and safety manual on ti.com once available.

In TI ASM devices, PWM module is for PWM output and CAP is designed mainly for input measurement.

    Thanks.

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your reply.

Could you comment about MCU performances? Which one suits our application better (ex. PWM type etc.)

    Best regards,

    Egemen

  • Hi Egemen,

Both device are good option for your use case on 2x traction motor + 1 pump motor control. Some key aspect you may want to consider when making choice include memory and interface.

F29 can support EtherCAT and CAN FD, and AM263P4 can support PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, gigabit Ethernet on top of that.
