TMS320F28P550SG: F28P55 failed pass 4KV surge test.

Part Number: TMS320F28P550SG

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

My customer is upgrade F28075 to F28P55, they have the same layout, use the same analog device, but F28P55 will damage(VDD short to GND) at 4KV surge, F28075 work well.

There are the test result, at 4KV surge

When use ISO-485, it will damage F28P55.

When use non-ISO-485, F28P55 not damage.

They re-layout PCB and add some TVS, but still don't pass 4KV surge test.

In new board, if they remove DCDC do 4KV surge test, it will not damage F28P55.

Could you give us some advice? Thanks!

Best Regards,

Zane

  • Hi Zane,

Let's focus on the hardware / test differences where 4KV surge test passes vs. does NOT pass. This should help narrow down where the specific issue / damage is coming from.

When use ISO-485, it will damage F28P55.

When use non-ISO-485, F28P55 not damage.

How is it tested with ISO-485 vs. non-ISO-485 device? Please elaborate on the specific testing steps. Like do they just replace U4 with a different part?

In new board, if they remove DCDC do 4KV surge test, it will not damage F28P55.

By DCDC you are meaning U10 or other part in their sch? Please elaborate on how the DCDC removal test is done.

    Best,

    Kevin
