TMS320F28384D: Serial Numbering

Hi Ben, 

After reviewing the documentation on the unique device number for C2000™ devices, I understand that Class-A devices, such as the F2833x series, only offer a pseudo-unique 32-bit identifier, which may not guarantee full uniqueness per chip.

Given this, it appears that assigning a reliable, per-device unique ID for purposes such as royalty tracking or hardware-level authentication might require additional components.

Could you kindly advise:

• Are there any recommended C2000 device families (such as Class-B devices) that provide truly unique IDs suitable for secure tracking in production?

• If not, does TI recommend any external solutions (e.g., secure elements or cryptographic ICs) for robust unique device identification?

The Class-B devices have a truly unique device identifier.

Is your customer only using Class-B devices?

Hi Benjamin, according to them,

...we are currently using control boards equipped with the F2837x / F2838x (Class B) series MCUs,

and we are planning to implement security features that allow each board to be assigned a unique ID for product management in the mass production stage.

We are referring to Infineon’s OPTIGA Trust M as a reference,
and are considering features such as:

• Product identification and authentication

• TLS-based secure communication

• Secure firmware updates

I am still not understanding why the device ID described above for F2837x / F2838x (Class B) series MCUs will not work for them.
