TMS320F28377D: How to debug APP code in Boot + APP project

Hi Expert

Customer has one debug support need: they need to debug APP code in Boot + APP project.

Customer's project structure is:

customer boot located at 0x80000 to 0x86000,
app code located at the flash behind 0x86000,
Customer boot and app code are 2 separate projects.

Now customer want to only debug APP code but keep the boot code. they see the variables are all "0" shown in the Expressions window when they do this kind of debug.

Could you please kindly help to see whether there is a workaround to help customer realize this debug?

Do you mean that the customer is attempting to debug their application after reset?

How are they launching their debug session? Have they tried loading the symbols for the application (*.out)?

Hi Matt

Yes, they keep the customer boot code and app code in the device flash, then:

Power cycle the board

connect the XDS100V3 to the debug port through ccs (open Target configuration window and right click to launch the F28377 configuration)

load app code symbols for the application (use load symbol button)

click resume to start debug.

with the above actions the variables cannot be properly updated in the Expressions window （always “0”）.

Hello,

What version of CCS is the customer using? Did they halt the debug after resuming to see where the device is executing? I also believe you need to halt to see the variables in the Expressions window.
