Hi, I am exploring an option of adding more RAM to the F28379D chip.

At present, the chip has 1024 kByte Flash and 204 kByte RAM. If my code increases or I want to run it at a faster sample time (faster execution period), I would need more RAM memory. Is it possible to add more RAM (e.g., IS61WV5128BLL-10TL), and how do I connect it to F28379D?

Size up DSPs: F28388D with 1536 kByte Flash and 338 kByte RAM and F29H850 with 4864 kByte Flash and 452 kByte RAM are as a last resort if RAM upgrade does not work.

I also found a TI example in ~\C2000Ware_4_02_00_00\boards\TIDesigns\F28379D_EMIF_DC\Altium.zip referenced in the PDF you shared, Appendix C.

In the PDF there is a mention that the design can work with TMDSCNCD28379D when connected via a 60-pin connector. Can you please advise on what pins this is connected to? Unfortunately, I am not able to identify this. On TMDSCNCD28379D there are three sections, each with 60 signals.

This is a picture of a 60-pin connector for an SRAM card. How is this connected to TMDSCNCD28379D?

The memory card can connect to J9 on TMS320F28379D launchpad.

Yes, but 60pin header on this board uses EMIF2.

You can use connector J2 on control card.

The EMIF2 signals are not mapped to 180-pin header, but you can use EMIF1 signals on 180-pin header.

Apologies, but where is the J2 connector (60-pin)? There is a J2 connector on the docking station, but that is a 14-pin (JTAG) connector.

Hi,

Per the schematics of control card (TMDSCNCD28379D R1.3), the connector to interface external memories (SDRAM, SRAM, etc) is J9. F28379D has two EMIFs. EMIF1 is mapped to J1 180-pin header, and EMIF2 signals are mapped to J9 connector.

The docking station doesn't have a dedicated header for SDRAM/SRAM. You have to wire the EMIF1 signals on 180-HSEC manually to your memory adaptor board.

Much appreciated. I completely failed to look at the TMDSCNCD28379D backside (or schematics in more detail). The connector J9 was there :)

Just one thing regarding the jumper J2 from https://www.ti.com/lit/an/sprac96a/sprac96a.pdf Table 10:
• J2-1 (GPIO_EM_A12) and J2-2 (EM_A12) for GPIO-controlled low, or
• J2-2 (EM_A12) and J2-3 (GND) for static low

It is controlled low in case of asynchronous memories and static low in case of synchronous memories?

Hi,

The EMIF1 address signal A12 and above are not routed to the 60-pin memory connector. If you want to access the higher memory address (memory with large size), you need to wire the address signals (A12, A13...) to your memory board.

• J2-1 (GPIO_EM_A12) and J2-2 (EM_A12) for GPIO-controlled low, or
• J2-2 (EM_A12) and J2-3 (GND) for static low

The above notes are for TI memory adaptor card only.

On TI memory adaptor card, the A12 is routed to a sync memory (SDRAM), and an async memory (SRAM). The GPIO_EM_A12 of J2-1 is mapped to MCU GPIO_119. If J2-2 is connected J2-1, you have to toggle GPIO_119 manually in your SW to access the higher addresses. If J2-2 is connected J2-3(LOW), the accessing the higher addresses are ignored.
