TMS320F28069: NB-PLC modem

Part Number: TMS320F28069
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28PLC84, AFE030

Tool/software:

Hi I want to develop device which uses NB-PLC modem and I am trying to find solutions from Texas Instruments.
It seems like suggested solution would be TMS320F28PLC84/TMS320F28069 or something similar + AFE030, but there is an issue that I can not find additional information.

For example:
www.ti.com/.../tidub76.pdf TIDEP0059 Design folder is not found

SDKs are not found
e2e.ti.com/.../tms320f28plc84-maximum-number-of-service-nodes-per-base-node

1. Are there any support for developement?-SDKS, design files?
2. Do I need host controller or can I use only TMS + AFE combination? This device will need to do trivial tasks.

Thanks,

Karlis

  • Hi Karlis,

We previously had a PLC SDK which supported this example software for these PLC devices, but these are currently unmaintained. F28069 is an older device and our newer F28P55x device is designed as a replacement for these PLC application equipment.

Can you take a look at this application brief and see if this is similar to what you are looking to develop? https://www.ti.com/lit/ab/snoaab6/snoaab6.pdf

    Regards,

    Peter

  • Yes this is what I was looking for.
Does TI provides code for  G3 PLC stack if we chose to go with F28P55x?

Also, what would TI offer for "PLC MCU" if we go with left side solution from image below?

  • Correct me if Im wrong - see that in TI product catalog there are :

    TMS320F28P559SG-Q1
    TMS320F28P550SG
    TMS320F28P559SJ-Q1
    TMS320F28P550SJ

Availability for these is kinda bad..Will it improve?

What is so special about these ? Is there specific peripheral which must be used together with AFE and other MCUs does not have it?

Are there any other MCUs from TI that can be used if our goal is to use G3 NB-PLC protocol ?

  • Hi Karlis,

Our apps expert on this is out of office. Let me check with our systems team as I am aware there was active development with F28P55x recently, let me try to understand the status of that.

By PLC MCU, it is basically meant to denote an MCU that is wholly dedicated to processing the PLC software stack which can be quite intensive. Primarily, the stack requires a certain amount of processing MIPS depending on the protocol used, some MCUs can have accelerators that make this easier so require fewer MIPs (VCU for example). G3 is quite a complex protocol as well

F28P55x has many advantages, primarily computing power, peripheral support like PGA and large number of ADCs. It is a very recent device (released last year) so we are actively working on increasing the stock for this device
