It's not clear what events trigger the INT_NMI interrupt source [in SysConfig] by default, or if events can be configured to trigger the INT_NMI interrupt source using the ESM.

Hi,

First of all, Sysconfig doesn't enable any events by default to trigger NMI user needs to select error events to trigger NMI.

There are events that by default generate NMI by design and these are group 0 events - Error events 0 to 31 in the error event table in reference manual.

After you have understood the above information then jump to the ESM example 1 in the F29 SDK and open syscfg and see how the particular error event is configure in syscfg to generate NMI in this case the TMU ROM parity error for CPU1 for ESM CPU1 instance.

So if I want to register an ISR for events 0-31, I don't have to use the ESM at all? I can just directly register an ISR with INT_NMI as the interrupt source in the Interrupt section of SysConfig?

Yes no configuration required in ESM to trigger NMI for events 0-31, just need to map NMI ISR and it will enter NMI if those errors occur

Understood. If we wanted to add more ESM events at that point, would we need to Enable High Priority NMI for the events but not register the handler in the Global Parameters section since it's already registered in the Interrupt section?

Yes configure events in respective ESM CPU instance for NMI trigger.

There is only one NMI for each CPU so you cannot set different ISR's for each event and so we have only one global entry for that
