F29x System Control Frequently Asked Questions

When CPU1 is running, can CPU3 be in a low-power mode, such as standby? When CPU3 is running, can CPU1 be in standby mode? Does the F29 support this scenario where one CPU is in low-power mode and the other CPU is running at full speed? Additionally, would the reduction in power consumption be significant in this case?

    • Yes, each CPU can independently operate in a different low power mode. Each module's current consumption is mentioned in the F29x datasheet.

If CPU1 is in a fault state, can CPU3 continue to operate normally? Conversely, if CPU3 is in fault state, can CPU1 continue to operate normally?

    • Yes, CPU3 state is independent of CPU1’s state and vice versa. If CPU1 encounters error (due to any error listed in ESM Event Map), ESM CPU1(responsible to signal error event to CPU1) instance can be configured to take appropriate action, similarly ESM CPU3 (responsible to signal error event to CPU3) can be configured to ignore CPU1 error conditions and operate independently. In summary, independent ESM instances one for each CPU can be configured such that there is flexibility provided to user to decide what action needs to be taken when error occurs.

On F28x, spread spectrum input to the PLL is not supported. Has this changed for F29x, or is the PLL identical to F28x?

    • No change in PLL, we don't support spread spectrum.
