TMS320F28P659DK-Q1: separate caps needed VREFHI?

Part Number: TMS320F28P659DK-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL-F28P65X, LAUNCHXL-F28P55X

Tool/software:

Hi TI Team,

For each VREFHIX pin, the data sheet describes the intent of connecting at least 2.2uF of capacitance. In my case, all three VREFHI pins are connected together and have a 4.7uF capacitor. Is this sufficient in this case or do I really need 3x2.2uF=6.6uF?

Thank You!

FM

  • Hi FM,

You can refer to the LAUNCHXL-F28P65X design which has this same use case. It is necessary to connect a 4.7uF decoupling cap for each VREFHI pin so you would need 3 caps in total. The VREFHI pins on this device are not internally bonded and as such can all experience reduced performance with external voltage ripple.

The only case where you only need 1 cap across multiple VREFHI pins are if the VREF is internally bonded. See LAUNCHXL-F28P55X schematic for reference

    Regards,

    Peter
