TMS320F28P650SK: Any chance of a C28x MCU running greater then 200Mhz in future releases?

Part Number: TMS320F28P650SK

Tool/software:

Hi TI Engineers and C2000 Chip designers. This is a long shot but theirs no harm in asking. Smiley

We totally LOVE the C28x CPU and I was wondering if there is any chance that's on the drawing board of designing a C28x based MCU faster than 200Mhz.

Our current multimedia project is using the C28x MCU running at 200Mhz which is absolutely sensational. Our next larger upgraded machine will be out in two years would Love a faster C28x CPU. 500Mhz or greater would be very very nice.

My ideal specs for the next C28x MCU would be:

176pin or 208 pin LQFP package 0.5mm pin spacing, C28x 32bit CPU with 24bit PC (Program Counter) running at 500Mhz or greater, 1MB 16bit SRAM, 2MB or 4MB FLASH memory, 128 GPIO, 4x QSPI, 32bit timers, an LCD TFT controller supporting VGA graphics modes up to 1920x1080 with HSYNC and VSYNC control, 16bit Stereo Audio DAC supporting audio IN and audio out 2 channels.

Am I asking for to much? LOL. Smiley

Thanks guys, let me know and have a great day.

Cheers Champagne glass

Peter

    Thanks for the feedback.

I would suggest you start looking at the new upgraded CPU C29x.  The first platform is sampling now

F29H850TU data sheet, product information and support | TI.com

and this has several variants with different # of CPU and memory configurations.

Any roadmap device meeting your needs is going to be based on C29x, not C28x.

  • Hi Chris, thanks for the info. I didn't even know about the CPU C29x. I've just had a look at the CPU reference manual, Data sheet and Technical Reference Manual and I have decided that......... I LIKE IT !!!!!  We will definitely use this CPU for our next project.

One thing tho. I could not find the C29x ASM instruction set. The C29x Reference Guide only demonstrates addressing modes and a few other things but it  does not contain the C29x instruction set. We are assembly programmers and do not code write our software in C unless its just for CPU startup using  CCS20.3.0. Where can I download the C29x instruction set manual from?

Please let me know as this is VITAL to programming the C29x in assembly language.

Thanks again Chris for the info and have a great day.

  • Peter,

"There is no plan to provide C29 instruction set.
We are planning to add list of intrinsic's with their description provided by C29 compiler."

I'm assigning this to if you have further questions

  • Chris, wow not good. This could be a project stopper worth big money to both of us. The C29x instruction set is mandatory. OK, I hope Prarthan Bhatt will support us.

Thanks Chris and have a great day. Slight smile

  • Peter,

We don't plan to make C29 instruction set public you can reach out to the local FAE/TI field team/support team to see how the instruction set can be made available to you.

In general key note to deliver from our side is that C29x core is more than capable of running most applications without need to handwriting assembly code to get performance needed. Hence C29 instruction set assembly coding is discouraged

    Thanks.

  • Prarthan, we are assembly coders and NOT C programmers. ASM instruction set is mandatory with our work. How do I contact the FAE/TI field team? Please let me know. Thanks for your reply and have a great day.

  • Hi Peter,

I have notified your local FAE of your request for the C29 instruction set. They should be reaching out to you shortly.

    Kind regards,

    AJ Favela

  • Thank you AJ, we'll wait until we hear from them. Hopefully soon.

Have a great day. Slight smile
