TMS320F28P650DK: Design File Release Date & Test Report

Part Number: TMS320F28P650DK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP23630

Hello E2E Experts,

I saw PMP23630 at OCP Global Summit a few weeks ago and was wondering when the efficiency curves for each power stage, thermal images, transient performance, etc. be posted/RTM? I'd like to review the BOM and promote to my customers who are interested in this architecture as well.

  • Good Afternoon PDS Team,

I was having technical issues posting this on E2E a few weeks ago, and had support enter this on my behalf. This is in regards to PMP23630 (Datacenter reference design for HVDC 30kW PSU) in addition to above request. I attended the 2025 Global OCP Summit and learned about this design. I am creating collateral to promote to my Server/AI customers, and have an open inquiry for the capacitor selection from a customer. Can you help address a few questions?

    1. When will the design files, test report, BOM, etc. RTM?
    2. From this PFC Overview:  SLUP417 - Comparison of AC/DC Power- Conversion Topologies for Three- Phase Industrial Systems, FC3L mentions that the initial charging of the FC to one-half Vdc is vital. Apart from rated voltage and capacitance. Are there any impedance and ESR considerations to keep in mind for this portion of this 30kW design?
    3. The reference diagram of PMP23630 shows that this is FC3L without middle point, so the recommendation is film & ceramic capacitor based on the previously linked overview. I assume with middle point you'd want ceramic, electrolytic, and film. Is this because of impedance characteristics with high and low frequency components on the DC Link?
      • Are there other collateral or reference designs to keep in mind or share to my customers with middle-point implementation?
    4. For the delta-delta LLC, the output capacitors look to be Nichicon parts. Either LGW2W101MELZ30 or LGW2W101MELA25, which have 3000 hour lifetime @ 105C. Because of the liquid electrolyte, the characteristics of these capacitors can change over time with exposure to higher temperatures, etc.
      • Will the test report have thermal imaging of the system at full load? I know Pdissipated is not static, and thermal management strategies can be implemented on end-customer system to mitigate. I'm just curious on whether 3000 Hour lifetime requirement would be enough given Open Compute / ORv3 expectancies for PSUs.

    Regards,

    Dan
