Dear Texas Instruments Support Team,
I am working with multiple LAUNCHXL‑F28379D LaunchPad development kits and using their on‑board SN65HVD234 CAN transceivers via the J12 CAN header (CANH, CANL, GND).
I plan to build a 3 meter long CAN bus(CAN network) with five LaunchPads connected on the same bus. My understanding from CAN physical‑layer guidelines is that a CAN bus should be terminated with 120ohm resistors at only the two physical ends of the bus, resulting in an effective load of about 60ohm between CANH and CANL.As LaunchPad node have its own 120ohm resistor across CANH and CANL, the equivalent resistance would be much lower, which could load the bus excessively and degrade signal integrity.
My questions are:
1. For a network of several LAUNCHXL‑F28379D boards on a single CAN bus, what is TI’s recommended termination strategy? Specifically, should only the two outermost nodes have 120ohm termination and other LaunchPads resistor (R34) should be removed.
Any guidance or application notes specific to using multiple LAUNCHXL‑F28379D boards on a shared CAN bus, including recommended measurement checks (e.g., expected DC resistance between CANH and CANL with power off), would be very helpful.
