Regarding TMS320F28335 Timers.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28335

Do you understand Timers on the F28335?

On page 12 of the TMS320F28335 Data Manual, it describes that the MCU has "Up to 8 32-bit/Nine 16-bit Timers" and also "Three 32-bit CPU timers".

Scanning the datasheets, I found lots of information on the 3 32-bit CPU timers, but couldnt find anything on the "8 32-bit/Nine 16-bit Timers"

Is this a mis-print in the datasheet or are the 9 16-bit timers called something else in the documentation?

Can you clarify how many 32-bit and 16-bit timers the TMS320F28335 has? Which are considered s/w or h/w timers?

Thanks,

PR

These are timers associated with other peripherals.  Each ePWM timer module has a 32-bit timer, each eCAP has a timer, the watchdog is a timer.

    Hope that helps.

  • Paul,

To follow-up, one of my coworkers helped me figure out where all the timers were  - and we have an action to make this more clear in future data manual updates.

    1. 32-bit CPU timers are spiked out in a separate bullet on Features page, so not included in the 32-bit timer count.
    2. 8 32-bit and 9-16-bit timers:
      1. 6 eCAPs + 2 eQEP’s (“unit timers - QUTMR”) = 8 32-bit timers
      2. 6 PWM’s  + 3 XINTCTR’s = 9 16-bit “timers”

    Regards
