TMS320F28P550SJ: PCB grounding concerns

Part Number: TMS320F28P550SJ

Hi Experts,

My customer is designing a 2-Layer F28P55 board, some to the suggestion in the C2000 hardware design may not apply since it's based on 4 or 6 layer boards.

My cusotmer would like to know about what's the risk of not having a fully foured GND layer?

If GND is not fully poured, which pins requires a GND plane near-by?

Regards,

Hang

  • Hi Hang,

A 2-layer board can still work with F28P55x, but the risk of not having a (near) continuous GND reference is higher EMI and more susceptibility to switching noise.

TI’s general C2000 hardware layout guidance strongly recommends short ground return paths and using a ground plane "when possible", plus bypass capacitors on every power pin placed very close to the pins.

    Best Regards,
