TMS320F28379D: Controller Card FTDI or XDS110 ???

Hi I am developing this Control card using TMS320F28379DPTPQ chip (176 pin)

While developing the Card , I am taking help from the reference design of LaunchXL_F28379D. It has a FTDI IC on the inside for USB-JTAG Debugging ( P02_XDS100v2 ) . I was thinking of not using it and directly connect the external XDS100V2 connector to use it for debugging .

While researching I found that TI has discontinued selling XDS100V2 and have upgraded to XDS110.

I would like to know the better suited option . I am on a tight timeline . If we go with XDS110 what changes do i need to have ?

TDO TDI TRST TMS TCK .... We just connect the new XDS110 to these and it works just like XDS110V2.

Or would you recommend putting the FTDI on the control card itself and usi a mini usb to debug it ?

Hello,

There are no changes necessary between the XDS100v2 and XDS110. The XDS110 is the next generation.

The XDS110 debug probe also has much higher debug performance than XDS100v2. Depending on the target device, host environment, and configuration, the XDS110 performs 3 to 5 times better than the existing XDS100v2 debug probe. I can see that xdx110 is a 20 pin connector . The pins highlighted I know from xdx100V2 14 pin config . TDIS , KEY , EMU2 EMU3 EMU4 mRESET pins go where ? .I don;t seem to find any information regarding them on the pdf you shared .

Hello,

As the TMDSEMU110-U product page states, the debug probe comes with several adapters from TI 20-pin, including to TI 14-pin:

TI 20-pin to TI 14-pin converter adapter
TI 20-pin to Arm Cortex® 20-pin converter adapter
TI 20-pin to Arm Cortex 10-pin converter adapter

TDIS (Target Disconnect) is the target disconnect signal and is supported on TI headers only. It is used to detect when the target is disconnected from the debug probe by sensing the removal of GND from the target board.

The KEY pin is to ensure the JTAG header is connected in the correct orientation so the emulator isn't shorted.

EMU2, EMU3, and EMU4 are not used on F28x devices and should be grounded.

nRESET is an open-drain output from the JTAG debug probe header that enables board components to be reset through JTAG debug probe commands (available only through the 20-pin header).
