CODECOMPOSER: Is There a Way to make a Post Build Step Failure Fail the Build?

Part Number: CODECOMPOSER

Greetings,

I am using CCS 12.2.1.  Currently, when a post build step fails, the build does not fail.  Is there a way to set things up so that the build fails too?

Thank you,

Ed

  • Hi Ed,

Currently, when a post build step fails, the build does not fail.  Is there a way to set things up so that the build fails too

I'm not quite sure what you are asking for here. The executable would get generated before the post build step runs. If the executable gets successfully generated, then the build was successful. If the post build step fails then you would see some error message.

    Thanks

  • Hi Ki,

When we do our product builds, the TI build is one piece of a larger process.  Ideally, when a sub-process fails, we would like the entire product build to fail.  When a post build step fails, the failure information is being captured, but is buried within all of the other build information.  And even though our post build routines do return an error, we can’t find a way to pass that error on and fail the product build.  And this results in false positives in our product builds.

So I’m hoping that I have overlooked something or there is something new that I am not aware of which will allow us to propagate any errors to the higher level process.

    Thank you,

    Ed

  • I don't think there is anything from the CCS end to help with this. Are you using the project CLI commands to build? If so and you are on windows, is the ERRORLEVEL set to 1 or remains at 0?

  • Yes, we are using the CLI under Windows.  And the programs which run during the post-build step return an error level of 1 if anything goes wrong.  0 is only used when the program returns without errors.

  • I played around with this a bit in 20.5.0 (I assume 12.x behaves the same) and see that the ERRORLEVEL will get set to 1 if the project build fails but not if the project build is successful but the post-build step fails. This is likely the intended behavior. What would be optimal for your case is if the ERRORLEVEL is set to a non-zero value if the post-build step fails (after successful project build). I filed a ticket for this request. Out external ticket system appears to be down so i can't provide a public link at this time so here is the internal ticket ID that you can use to request updates for in the meantime: CCSNXT-3317

Note that this ticket is for our new CCS Theia environment. CCS 12.x is obsolete and we will not make any updates to it.

    Thanks

  • Hi Ki,

Thank you for checking.  How do I use the ticket ID?  Do I simply start a new thread and ask?

    Thank you,

    Ed

  • Hopefully the sync issue gets resolved soon and when it does I can provide the public link. Otherwise you can simply reply to this thread for an update (if the thread is still unlocked) or start a new thread with the ID.

For full transparency - we have a sizable backlog of issues we are trying to address for CCS 20.x. It may be awhile before we can get to this particular issue.

  • OK.  Thank you Ki.
